Fireplace Tile Ideas

When it comes to making the most of your living space, it’s all about the details – and that includes the fireplace. While wood, stone, and brick are popular choices for fireplaces, using tile to add some color and style is a new favorite of designers. Tiles are a chic way to dress up an otherwise dull fireplace, so if you’re ready to go for something stunning, check out these fireplace tile ideas.

Contrasting Color

A fireplace already stands out against otherwise plain walls, but one way to add even more drama to a space is to use a color that contrasts with the rest of the room. For example, if you have an all-white or neutral room, try a deep blue, solid black, or other dark shade.

Mosaics

Use ultra-small tiles to create a mosaic to surround your fireplace. You can line them up and place them as you would regular-sized tiles or break up large tiles into smaller pieces and fit them together for a distinctive look. You can also use small tiles or tile pieces to create a patterned mosaic. Mosaic fireplaces work incredibly well in homes with a rustic theme.

Mix and Match Materials

To get extra oomph out of your tiles, mix and match them with other fireplace materials. Woodworks exceptionally well to set off the look of tile. Keep the wooden mantlepiece and frame, and install your tiles on the inner panel to achieve this look. For even more style, paint the wood a contrasting color in a high sheen.

Bohemian

Patterned tiles are an excellent choice for fireplaces, especially if the rest of the room is more or less pattern-free. Classic bohemian patterns will turn your fireplace into a statement piece in no time at all. Go bold or subtle with your pattern, depending on your tastes and the style of your home.

Terracotta

Terracotta tiles are a classic (and classy) option that match well with shabby-chic décor. The warm reddish-brown color adds an extra layer of coziness around the fire. Make terracotta pop by decorating the room with dusty blue and warm beige.

Go Gray

Cool light gray tiles will look fantastic around a fireplace no matter what color your room is. Plus, they’ll reflect the light from a lit fire exceptionally well without being too harsh. It’s best to use a few different shades of gray to avoid losing any depth in the room.

Textured Tiles

Instead of picking a smooth, flat tile, check out tiles with texture. Natural stone or slate effect tiles will give an organic appearance. Plus, the texture will make the firelight shine even brighter as it bounces off the tiles.
